My Journey

Hi, I’m Tobias, a passionate hobbyist and miniature painter from Germany since I got the “Mines of Moria” set for my birthday 2007. I was immediately hooked in the hobby with my main focus on painting armies for Lord of the Rings, Warhammer Fantasy and 40k at that time.

Different times came and went, but this hobby remained throughout the years a steady companion in my life being an anchor and a source of joy even when things became difficult. My mind needs constant challenges so painting new things, thinking of conversions or cool dioramas and trying new techniques became my way to meditate and clear my head.
Even as my military service started in 2014 I brought some Space Marines and Thorin’s Company into the barracks and painted in my scarce spare time in the evenings.

My focus shifted slowly from gaming towards the creative aspect with the nail in the coffin being the pandemic. Like many of you I was not able to participate in live games anymore and had way too much time, so I tried completely different things and started my journey to become a better painter. I painted my first bust during this time in 2021 - something completely unthinkable before, because you cannot play with them!

Since then I constantly aim to improve and although I still have a long way to go when looking at others I’m already proud of the improvements I made when I look at my own journey.

Commission Work

My little brother played a huge role in my early hobby years as gaming and painting companion, so I painted him 15 Easterling Cataphracts in full NMM for his birthday in 2022. Here I began to think about miniature painting for others. I started to post on Instagram here and there, painted for friends and family and finally started to offer my services on Fiverr in 2023.

This elevated me into a completely different level as commission work needs you to be efficient while you have to leave your comfort zone to fulfill the customers needs. I had a lot of fun and my wonderful wife was happy that the amount of new miniatures in my cabinet dramatically slowed down as most of my projects were sent all around the world.
I quickly became one of the most sought-after Germany-based commission painters on Fiverr, something I have never anticipated. And this while maintaining my full-time job and despite the birth of my son in 2025.

Teaching

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime” is a proverb deeply connecting with me. Throughout school, university and later life I always aimed for knowledge and subsequently sharing it with others.
Of course I taught my brother how to paint back when he started as well. Besides that I took care of different people getting into the hobby and showed the way of brush and airbrush.

A special case for me was a teenage boy in my local town, who was in need of a gaming partner as he was new to the hobby. Between games I gave tips, tought how to have realistic expectations, patience and accept errors. The hobby aspect gained more importance over time and he began to strive for better paint jobs. So we chose a model he loved and I supported him through his journey. In the end he successfully competed in the famous Golden Demon painting competition at Spiel 2025 in Essen with it in the Youngbloods category. I won’t forget his proud and thankful face.

This ignited the urge to teach even more and now I’m organizing workshops for everyone interested in learning this craft or achieving better results.
